6.1 Certain surcharges may apply in addition to the carriage fees paid in advance of service.
6.2 Surcharges represent additional costs incurred by Interparcel from the Carriers to send your goods and are not penalties imposed by Interparcel. This information is provided to you prior to placing your order and forms part of these Terms.
6.3 Surcharge requests can be disputed through our dispute process. Customers are responsible for accurately measuring and weighing their parcels before booking. You acknowledge and agree that carriers will not provide photographic or manual evidence of parcel measurements. All size and weight data recorded by the carrier’s calibrated automated equipment, including infrared dimensioning systems, shall be deemed conclusive for the purposes of billing and surcharges. If you wish to contest a surcharge, you must supply clear supporting evidence (for example, photographs of the parcel with a visible tape measure or scale). We strongly recommend customers take and retain such evidence at the time of booking.
6.3.1 All surcharges must be disputed with supporting evidence within 14 days. Contact details for disputes will be included in the surcharge request. For clarity, all dispute-related communication should be sent via email to billing@interparcel.com
6.4 The following is a non-exhaustive list of circumstances where surcharges may apply:
6.4.1 By entering the weight and dimensions of your Consignment/s you are pre-paying for the postage. If the courier measures the Consignment(s) to be heavier or larger than declared, the additional weight/size will be charged at the applicable rate for that weight/size and service.
6.4.2 A minimum surcharge of £10.00 will be applied if you are not present when the driver attempts to collect the Consignment, or if the Consignment is otherwise unavailable for collection at the pre-arranged time.
6.4.3 Some services may incur a surcharge if a re-delivery is necessary because the recipient is unable to accept the delivery as scheduled. Please check the service description before sending.
6.4.4 A surcharge may apply if the recipient refuses to accept delivery or is unavailable, resulting in the goods being returned to you.
6.4.5 Certain areas may be subject to a remote area surcharge. This will be calculated in the quoting system during the booking process. Should a change of delivery request be made while the goods are in transit, a surcharge may apply depending on the new location.
6.4.6 You are pre-paying for postage charges only. Any customs charges for overseas shipments must be paid by the recipient, or may be passed on to the sender if they arise. Customs charges may be assessed either before or after delivery, and Interparcel reserves the right to recover such charges from the sender where the recipient fails to pay. Please refer to the Customs clearance section (Clause 12) for details on return charges if goods are returned when customs fees are unpaid.
6.4.7 Interparcel cannot carry pallets unless your goods are booked on a Pallet service. Any order collected on a pallet that is booked on a standard service will incur a surcharge.
6.4.8 Consignments must be given to the correct carrier/driver. If goods are handed to the wrong carrier/driver, we will attempt to have the parcel returned. If this is not possible, a surcharge may apply if the service used is more expensive than the one purchased. If you have booked multiple shipments and companies through our site, please confirm with each driver that you are handing across the correct consignments to them.
6.4.9 We may provide documentation to accompany your shipment. Failure to attach this documentation could result in a surcharge. See section 7.6.
6.4.10 Pallet and Same Day services may be subject to firstly, a waiting surcharge if the driver is delayed for more than 10 minutes, a failed collection surcharge if there is nothing to collect, or if no one is available at the collection or delivery point. A cancellation fee may also apply if the collection is cancelled on the due day and the collection has already been scheduled. These charges are postcode specific, details will be provided upon request.
6.4.11 Using excessive amounts of tape or fragile tape on packages may result in additional handling charges or surcharges imposed by the carrier. These charges are determined by the carrier's policies and are outside of our control. To avoid potential fees, we recommend referring to our
packaging advice.
6.4.12 In the case of international shipments, any non-routine entry charges, including but not limited to additional customs clearance fees, government agency fees, or charges for inspections, may be billed to the sender if they are not paid by the recipient. These charges are imposed by authorities or carriers and are outside of Interparcel’s control.
6.5 If a surcharge arises from undeclared details that should have been included in the original booking, an administration fee of £15 + VAT will be charged. We refer to this as the 'Manual Fee.'
6.6 When a surcharge is payable and the value is below £30.00, we reserve the right to charge the payment method used for the initial order directly. In such cases, you will be notified 7 days before the payment is taken, with an option to dispute the charge. For surcharges greater than £30.00, you will receive an invoice, and payment must be made within 7 days or disputed with evidence.
6.6.1 Where a Pre Pay balance exists on the customer’s account, Interparcel also reserves the right to deduct surcharges directly from this balance without requiring additional payment authorisation. Customers will be notified 7 days in advance of any such deduction and given the opportunity to dispute the charge before funds are withdrawn.
6.7 All surcharges are payable within 7 days, whether auto-collected or invoiced as described in 6.6. We reserve the right to charge interest on any payments due from business customers that exceed the 7-day payment terms, at a rate of 8% per annum above the current Bank of England base lending rate, calculated daily until the debt is paid.
6.8 In the event of non-payment, where an overdue balance remains unpaid 60 days after the due date, Interparcel reserves the right to refer the debt to a third-party debt recovery agency. A preparation fee of up to 25% of the overdue amount will be added at the point of referral to cover administration and processing costs. Further, the debt recovery agency may also apply additional collection fees in accordance with their own fee structure. The full outstanding balance, including any surcharges and third-party fees, at that point will be payable directly to the agency.
6.9 A surcharge may negate any claim for loss or damage.
